The shadow in shadows smiled, if that is what it could be called, for the gesture would have crushed any mortal soul that saw it.
'The maggots fought back, and their latest victory was greater than they realized.' The thoughts whirled in the not-place, giving shape to gibbering creatures of talon and claw. 'But it was to be expected.'
"Not long now," the darkness gave voice to its thoughts, and the newborn creatures whined in pain and horror. "I can wait. I know patience. I can wait." And in the world, the sun got darker and many of power great and weak felt a touch of despair, but there were few who could know the meaning of it, and of those few, they kept their own counsel.
The shadow lost form and slid back into the darkest of darkness that surrounded it, one thought vibrating the evil that it was.
"Not long now."
